Australian Gambling News

It is very common when a government is blamed for anything especially related to gambling, it has to do with not properly regulating the industry. But in Australia, and this phenomenon is the whole opposite.  The Australian administration is being blamed for a major augment in poker machine gambling at the end of 2008. According to the Victorian Commission the increase is the fault of the Australian Prime Minister. Gaming Spokesman Michael O’Brien said “Now if John Brumby was serious about tackling problem gambling, you’d start to see these figures trend down.”

The statistics O’Brien is talking about came from the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation. The Commission contends that in the second half of 2008. There was a $46 million enhancement from the first half of 2008.  The overall numbers for the second half of the year were around $1.4 billion. The administration has not denied that an incentive payment that was given out before the holidays had something to do with the augment in gambling. On the other hand, December was where the main increase for the second half of 2008 was found. However, the administration pointed out that overall, gambling is mounting more slowly than it did in the last year.
