Smoking Bans in AC Casinos

Casino SmokingThe Atlantic City (AC) Council agreed October 2008 with casino proprietors that felt they would be losing too much currency if they did not allow smoking in the casinos.
Observer Peter Hylumster said “When such a display of poor judgment is used by individual cities, there is usually no doubt that the state will chime in on the issue, and that is what we are seeing in the state of New Jersey.” The almighty dollar was put before the health of numerous workers in those casinos.

On this issue, a New Jersey State Senate Committee is now discussing with different level. They have discussed on the possibility of taking the preference of giving into casino owners off the table for the Atlantic City Council. However, Senate Committee is planning a law that would ban smoking in all eleven casinos. A dealer (that wished to remain anonymous) at one of the AC casinos said “Thank God that the state sees that the health of workers in our casinos should come before profits for the casino owners. Heck, there is smoking now and we still don’t have the customers we used to.”

On the other hand, casino owners try to create pressure on legislators. They are trying to convince state lawmakers that the proposed smoking ban would cripple the casino industry. But the committee is disregarding those pleas. They are moving forward with a possible ban. Casinos owners are worried with this law.
